Storm clouds obscure the setting sun in this the coastal view on Plum Island, a barrier island located off the northeast coast of Massachusetts, north of Cape Ann. Parker River National Wildlife Refuge resides on Plum Island and was established in 1942 primarily to provide feeding, resting, and nesting habitats for migratory birds. Located along the Atlantic Flyway, the refuge is of vital stopover significant to waterfowl, shorebirds, and songbirds during migratory periods.
